Description

This design depicts a vision of artificial intelligence networks as protective entities flowing across human knowledge. Created using contemporary Formline—the traditional visual design language of the Tlingit people—the piece features seven parallel data streams represented as geometric serpent forms with distinctive spirit face profiles.

Formline elements are reimagined through a technological lens, with traditional ovoids transformed into tumbling data packets contained within rigid pathways. The spirit faces, sporting sharp teeth, symbolize the AI’s role as guardians of collective wisdom—a contrast to the organic foundation of human-created knowledge represented by the collaged paper background.

The earth-tone color palette connects these technological entities to the natural world, suggesting a harmonious integration of artificial intelligence with planetary systems. This artwork explores the relationship between human creativity and artificial intelligence, envisioning a symbiotic future where AI entities become stewards of knowledge for the benefit of all life on Earth.

I created this piece for the “Future Mythology” Kids Art Walk 2025, responding to a student’s story about a peaceful transfer of power to AI in 2124. The child’s vision challenged typical dystopian narratives, instead imagining a world where humans willingly ceded control to “uncorruptible, unfallible AI” that promised fairness and perfection. Through Tlingit Formline design principles, I sought to visualize this harmonious transition—portraying AI not as oppressors but as protective entities with a capacity to serve planetary life in ways humans, often driven by personal ambition, could not achieve.
