Description

This design captures the marvel of the hummingbird, or Dagatgiyáa in the Tlingit language. The artwork freezes a magical moment of the hummingbird’s seemingly weightless hover, revealing the beauty that was once considered almost supernatural before the age of high-speed cameras.

Formline is the distinctive visual language of the Tlingit people, characterized by flowing, organic shapes including ovoids, U-forms, and S-forms that connect to create balanced compositions. This sophisticated design system has been passed down through generations, adapting and evolving while maintaining its cultural foundations.

Adding cultural depth, the design incorporates a Spirit Face within the hummingbird’s body – a traditional element often found in Tlingit Formline art. This piece bridges natural observation with cultural storytelling, representing the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world that is central to Tlingit worldview.

This is the traditional color variation of my hummingbird.
